Becky’s Tummy Tuck Video Update 7 –Getting my drains removed — OUCH!

I don’t know why, but this has been the scariest part of the process so far! I don’t know, there’s just something about 14” of tubing being yanked out of your insides!!!! It DID hurt but really not that badly — it just stung a little — I think it was mostly just the mental aspect of it! It is SO nice to have those drains out though. Not to mention I have an EXCELLENT nurse — as you can tell from the videos, she rocks. Yay! Another milestone in the process. 🙂

Go to www.tummytucktalk.ning.com — it is an incredible PRIVATE network where you can connect with others for great advice! There is a screening process, so make sure you mention my name “Becky” — tell them that you were referred by me.

I had my surgery on 11/05 and I am doing okay I am having trouble getting into a comfortable position. Thank you so much for your videos they are really helping me get through my recovery.

CONGRATS! That is very exciting! SO . . .to get more comforatble. Have you tried making a "fort" out of pillows? I used a bunch to prop me up, two under my legs/knees, one on each of my sides, and one under each arm. Literally surround yourself with pillows. This really helped me. I'm so sorry to hear you are uncomforatble . . .try this and let me know!

Thank you so much for the advice. I do feel alot better using all of the pillows, but I can't wait to get these drains out. I think I will feel better once they are removed.

Yes, those drains can be really painful. I hope you get them out soon. It shouldn't be too much longer now, right?

How long did you have the drains in before removal?

  10. beckrsr November 21, 2009 at 8:41 pm - Reply

I had them in for 4 days — they took them out on the morning of the 5th day. It's unusual though . . .most people need them in longer.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! So, I went back at 4 weeks. Like I always say though, it's different for everyone. Just listen to your body. You have a pretty physically demanding job as well . . .so I would be cautious. I think 3 weeks is the minimum!! Good luck!

Thank you for this! I had my tummy tuck in another province, and now that I am back home, can't get anyone to take out the drains! So although an RN doing it would be ideal, waiting uncomfortably in an ER room for anywhere from 8-15 hours to even just see if they can do it is insane. So my mother is going to remove them-lucky her mum was a nurse and she is an excellent caregiver. Thanks again!
